A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of an orange equilateral triangle one point up, and containing between two gold stars in base a gold sea lion holding erect in his right paw a gold sword; the triangle surmounting four white lightning flashes all enclosed and supported by a gold laurel wreath its branches bound together at center base by a red band.
Orange and white are the colors used for the Signal Corps. The four lightning flashes in base are symbolic of the basic signaling function and allude as well to the unit's numerical designation. The two stars represent the unit's participation in the Leyte and Luzon campaigns of World War II and the sea lion and triangle, symbols adapted from the Seal of the president of the Philippines, refer to the award of the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. The Meritorious Unit Commendation received for service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater is represented by the laurel wreath tied in the scarlet color of the streamer.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 27 September 1971.
